Checklist for a Successful Start to the School Year

☑ Talk to your child about pedestrian safety if they are walking to school or if they are waiting at a bus stop. Explain to them the importance of crossing busy roads at crosswalks and remind them to wait until cars on both sides of the road come to a complete stop before crossing.

☑ Pick up your student's laptop before the school year begins. Check back soon for information about opportunities to pick up student laptops prior to the start of school.

☑ Save important dates, including Open Houses, orientations, school-family conferences, early dismissal days and vacation days, in your phone’s calendar or on an electronic calendar. You may also subscribe to our calendar on bpsma.org to automatically import dates to your calendar.

☑ Subscribe to text messages by texting “YES” to 675-87. This is the fastest way to receive notifications from the district and your child's school.

☑ Subscribe to the district and school calendars by clicking here, selecting your desired calendar(s) from the list and clicking "subscribe" at the top of the page. You'll have the option to add your preferred calendars to your existing Google Calendar, iCal, or Outlook.

If your child takes a bus, check back soon for information on transportation.

☑ Complete student handbook forms as soon as they become available.

☑ Make sure important vaccinations and health exams are up to date. Learn more about required vaccinations and other important health information by visiting the district's health services page by clicking here.

☑ Avoid unnecessary absences by scheduling travel plans outside of school hours. Consistent attendance is critical to a successful education. We will enforce the attendance policy as written in our student handbooks. Students should stay home from school when they are sick with a contagious illness.

☑ Check the Parent Portal for updates on teacher assignments and other important information by clicking here. Teacher assignments are expected to be available by August 30.
