Champion High School welcomed Disney master painter and Massachusetts native Rob Surrette on Jan. 24 for a special assembly. During the presentation, Surrette shared with students a message of setting lofty goals -- perhaps even farfetched ones -- and doing the work to pursue them and make the most of their lives.
Surrette shared his journey from novice artist to a painter working for Disney and as he spoke, he showcased his speed painting skills as he hand-painted portraits of President Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr. and Mother Teresa. Surrette is known for his "hero art" and also showcased his more detailed works of sports and movie heroes before unveiling a custom-painted portrait of Brockton's own Rocky Marciano.
The visit was made possible thanks to grant funding from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
