Unified Student Services

The Office of Unified Student Services oversees a number of important programs and services that are integral to the operation of the Brockton Public Schools.

The Offices of Guidance & Counseling, Exceptional Learning (formerly Special Education), Social and Emotional Learning, Nursing and Medical Services, and Equity and Excellence all operate under the umbrella of Unified Student Services. Further, the district's Community Mentoring Program, Homeless and Foster Care Services, Specialized Transportation, Center for Reengagement and Restorative Justice, and Community Partnerships and Resources are organized within the department.

Civil Rights & Harrassment
It is the policy of the Brockton Public Schools to promote and maintain an educational environment that is free from harassment. Harassment is against the law and will not be tolerated in the Brockton Public Schools. Harassment is defined as repeated unwanted or unwelcome verbalisms or behaviors with overtones related to a person's race, color, sex, religion, national origin, disability or sexual orientation.

The Brockton School Committee has designated Dr. James LaBillois Assistant Superintendent for Unified Student Services, as the school system's equity officer for students, vested with the authority and responsibility of processing all complaints of harassment and discrimination.

Any student who feels that he or she has been harassed or discriminated against because of his or her race, color, sex, religion or national origin should contact Dr. James LaBillois, whose office is located in the Crosby Administration Building at 43 Crescent Street, Brockton, MA 02301-4311, (508) 894-4341.

If the student prefers, they may file the complaint with any teacher or counselor, who will then bring the complaint to the attention of the Equity Officer.

If parents are not satisfied with the results of the investigation and the action taken, a formal complaint may be filed with the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights, 33 Arch Street, Suite 900, Boston, MA 02110-1491, (617) 289-0111.
